Toyota is known for producing an incredible range of crossovers and SUVs, but according to reports, it will be further expanding the lineup in the near future. Although there isn’t a name for this new crossover yet, we do know a little about it.
The Basics
The new Toyota crossover would be similar stylistically to the C-HR concept attendees saw at the Paris Motor Show in 2014. This would give it an unconventional design that lets it stand out from the competition. The crossover would also be right about the Rav4 in the lineup, placing it a bit below the Highlander. Based on reports, the new crossover should be based on the New Global Architecture of Toyota, the modular platform that should underpin about half of new Toyotas made worldwide as of 2020. The platform is designed to improve interior space with a small footprint and should first be seen on the next Prius.
Potential Markets
Before it reaches production, the new Toyota crossover would first have to be approved. After this happens, we aren’t sure whether the crossover will be sold overseas or in North America. Some rumors say that it will be the Auris Cross, a crossover equivalent of the Auris hatchback available overseas. For Americans who are unfamiliar with the Auris, that model only recently reached America as the Scion iM.
The concept of the C-HR shows Toyota’s potential move toward adventurous styling. While waiting to learn more about the new crossover, take a look at the current Toyota crossovers and SUVs at Thomasville Toyota in Thomasville, Georgia.
