Grab a bucket of soapy water and a soft microfiber cloth. Today we’re going over the best ways to detail your car. For a full guide, take a look at these detailing tips to make your car look brand new. In the meantime, here are our top three tips.
Use the Right Soap
Many people choose to use dishwashing liquid when washing their car, but that shouldn’t be your first choice. Dishwashing liquid is a great grease fighter. It works wonders when you’re trying to get oily, spaghetti sauce stains out of your Tupperware. But that’s what makes it terrible for auto-detailing. Dishwashing liquid drains your car’s finish of important oils it needs to prolong the life of your paint job. So, instead of using harsh dishwashing soap, purchase soap specifically designed for cars.
Bonus Tip: Rinse your vehicle before you start washing it. This will remove any dust and grit from the surface so that you don’t grind it into your paint job.
Clean Your Interior from Top to Bottom
When you open the door to start cleaning the cabin of your car, your first instinct might be to vacuum the floors first. We get it. It’s a quick, big impact task, and completing it will make you feel like you’ve made a lot of progress. The problem is that you’ll knock a lot of dust, dirt, and grime back onto the floors when you clean the rest of the interior. Instead, clean your interior from top to bottom. Start with your dashboard. Then work your way down to the carpet.

Clean the Glass Last
Even though you’re working from top to bottom, you’ll want to skip your windows and save them for last. If you clean them first, you’ll have a similar issue you had with cleaning your carpets first. All of the other cleaning products and dust will accumulate on your clean windows. So, save the windows for the very end of your car washing process.
