They say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and one of our favorite places to get our morning grub here in Thomasville is the Savannah Moon Bakery and Cafe, which offers breakfast classics but also puts a new spin on some old favorites. The great food, warm atmosphere, and welcoming staff keep us coming back for more. Like the city it’s named for, the Savannah Moon Bakery’s offerings are intriguing and sometimes just a little bit decadent. For us, it’s hard to narrow the choices down to just one.
Beautiful Monster
While everything on the menu is delicious, you’ve got to try the Mini Monster. That’s a serving of Southern-style potatoes, bacon, and cheddar cheese inside a two-egg omelet. The eggs Benedict is mouth-watering — that’s a split English muffin, Canadian bacon, and two basted eggs, topped with Hollandaise. Savannah Moon Bakery also offers a great Southern take on this classic dish, too: The Country Benedict offers a split biscuit topped with ham, two basted eggs, and smothered in homemade sausage gravy. Just makes your mouth water to think about it, doesn’t it? And if your sweet tooth needs a little attention, there’s the traditional French toast, but don’t be afraid to try the Savannah Banana: Crunchy French toast stuffed with bananas, cinnamon, brown sugar, and pecans. Topped with powdered sugar and syrup, it definitely satisfies that sweet craving.
Lovely Lunch
With a host of sandwiches to choose from on the lunch menu, you’re going to find something you’ll love at Savannah Moon Bakery. We’d recommend the Beefernickel, and not just for the name. The sandwich features roast beef, sautéed onions, and herb cream cheese on honey pumpernickel bread. Feeling really hungry? The Chicken Pot Pie has a flaky homemade crust and a creamy chicken-and-veggie filling, and it’s served with a Savannah side salad. But hurry, because the bakery only makes a limited amount of them every day.
