Toyota has always been a leader in the world of fuel-saving automobiles. In 2000, the Toyota Prius helped celebrate Earth Day at the National Mall. This year, its place was taken by the Toyota Mirai. This hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle is leading environmentally friendly innovation and was part of the Earth Day celebrations lasting between April 17 and 19.
Toyota Is an Earth Day Partner
Not only did Toyota debut the 2016 Mirai at the Earth Day celebrations, but it was also an important sponsor. In a partnership with the Earth Day Network, Toyota helped sponsor the Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day Celebration. This three-day event featured the activation of the Mirai as well as performances by stars and speeches by government leaders and environmental voices alike.
The Importance of the Mirai
Toyota views the 2016 Toyota Mirai as a key point in the history of automobiles. The senior vice president of automotive operations, Bob Carter, spoke for the company when he said that they were looking forward to Americans having the chance to drive the Mirai, which is the result of over 20 years of development and research. Toyota feels that the Earth Day debut was perfect timing as it also allowed Toyota to provide education concerning hydrogen fuel cell technology, as well as its future potential.
Other Toyota Earth Day Events
Throughout April, Toyota did more than just sponsor the Earth Day celebration. It also created an interactive display in Union Square Park in New York City on April 19, and on April 22, the automaker participated in “Keep it Clean” with the Waterkeeper Alliance.
