Summer is winding down and it is almost time to say goodbye to the hot weather. It’s not quite soup season, but there are several dishes you can get excited about during this time of year. Here are several tasty August recipes worth celebrating from our friends at Taste of Home!
The Main Course
You’ll definitely keep your family and friends coming back for more with this Grilled Brown Sugar-Mustard Chicken Recipe. You’ll need 1/2 cup yellow or Dijon mustard, 1/3 cup packed brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice, 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes, and 8 boneless skinless chicken thighs.
Find your favorite large bowl and mix the mustard, brown sugar, allspice, and pepper flakes. Then, remove 1/4 cup mixture for serving. Add the chicken to the remaining mixture and toss. Next grill the chicken while covered over medium heat for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until it is 170° inside. Serve with your mustard mixture and you are all set!
A Fresh Side
Feel satisfied with this fresh Balsalmic Green Bean Salad. You’ll need 2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-1/2-inch pieces, 1/4 cup olive oil, 3 tablespoons lemon juice, 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/4 teaspoon ground mustard, 1/8 teaspoon pepper, 1 large red onion, chopped, 4 cups cherry tomatoes, halved, and 1 cup (4 ounces) crumbled feta cheese.
Place your beans in a 6-qt. stockpot and add water to cover. Bring water to a boil. Next, cook covered 8-10 minutes. Then drain and immediately place in ice water. Drain and pat dry. To the side in a small bowl whisk oil, lemon juice, vinegar, salt, garlic powder, mustard, and pepper. Drizzle this tasty mixture over your beans and add the onion. Refrigerate, covered for 1 hour. When you are ready to eat, stir in the tomatoes and cheese.

Apple Pie For Dessert
Sweeten the ending of a great summer with this sweet Apple Pie recipe. You’ll need 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup packed brown sugar, 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger, 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg, 6 to 7 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, Pastry for a double-crust pie, 1 tablespoon butter, and 1 large egg white.
In a small bowl combine the sugars, flour, and spices. In a large bowl toss apples with lemon juice. Add sugar mixture and toss. Line a 9-in. pie plate with bottom crust. Fill with apple mixture. Roll remaining crust to fit the top of your pie. Make sure your edges are all sealed and then cut slits in crust. Beat egg white until foamy and brush over crust. Sprinkle with sugar. Cover edges loosely with foil. Bake at 375° for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
