Get to Know the Future Toyota Mirai

Toyota Mirai ThomasvilleSince it was first announced, the Toyota Mirai has been a popular subject in the automotive world as the first hydrogen-powered vehicle. The Mirai will take environmental friendliness to the next level, offering efficiency with absolutely no emissions other than water vapor.

How the Fuel Cells Work

Instead of filling up your Mirai at the gas station, you pump hydrogen into the vehicle. The gas is then stored in carbon-fiber fuel tanks. The front intake grills bring outside air inside so they can reach the fuel cell stack. Hydrogen travels to the car’s fuel cell stack, where it and the air’s oxygen undergo a chemical reaction that generates electricity. This electricity is released to the motor when you press on the gas pedal. There is only one byproduct of this entire process: water, which exits via the Mirai’s tailpipe.

Safety Throughout

Every precaution is taken to ensure there are no safety concerns regarding the hydrogen tanks. They were designed to avoid leakage, and hydrogen automatically stops flowing in case of a collision. Hydrogen can only leak into the open air, where it harmlessly and rapidly disperses. The future Toyota Mirai also comes with a range of other safety systems to keep drivers and passengers safe, such as a smart body structure, Active Safety System, Safety Connect, Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and eight SRS airbags.

Notable Features

The Toyota Mirai will also include all of the comforts and conveniences drivers have come to expect from a Toyota. The heated steering wheel is power tilt and telescoping and has controls that make it easy to keep track of settings from the comfort of your 8-way power and heated SofTex seat featuring power lumbar. Entertainment is no concern thanks to the premium audio system with Entune App Suite, navigation, and JBL audio.

You can expect to see the 2016 Toyota Mirai at the end of the year. In the meantime, the team at Thomasville Toyota in Thomasville, Georgia, can give you more information about this innovative car.
