How To Make A Morning Routine

Father and son preparing for school

The beginning of a new school year can be hectic for kids and parents, but there are ways to alleviate the stress. For starters, you can create a morning routine that will help you get your day off to a successful start. Here are a few tips and tricks for making a solid back-to-school routine.

Get Up Early

On the first day back to school, you should get up a few minutes early. There are bound to be a few unforeseen mishaps, like spilled juice or a missing shoe, so plan to get up 15 to 20 minutes earlier than you think you need to. You can always adjust your wake-up time as the school year progresses.

Plan Ahead

In addition to getting up early, you can give yourself extra time in the morning by planning. If there are things you can do the night before, go ahead and tackle them before you head to bed. For instance, it might be helpful to shower the night before. It will improve your morning if everything you need for the day is already packed up and ready to go. Just making sure your little one’s homework is in their backpack and their lunch is packed can make your morning easier.

Delegate to Older Children

When your kids are very small you do most things for them. You brush their teeth, help them put their clothes on, make their lunch, etc. As they get older it’s easy to keep doing these things out of habit, but you can save a lot of time by teaching them to complete these tasks themselves. Assess your child’s skill level and then choose the tasks you think they can handle each morning. You should help them practice their new tasks on the weekend when you don’t have the pressure of being on time.
