Serve Up These Hot Honey Wings

honey hot wings

Hot wings are a Southern favorite, and we’ve found a recipe for Hot Honey Chicken Wings that are as moist as they are crispy. These wings are sure to be a crowd pleaser, so you may want to make multiple batches. The good news is they’re fairly simple to prepare and only require a few ingredients.

Prep: 10 minutes    Cook: 30 minutes    Yield: 4 servings

What You’ll Need:

  • 3 pounds chicken wing portions (also called “party wings”)
  • 2 Tablespoons + 1 teaspoon Kosher salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 3 Tablespoons hot sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • sliced green onion or chopped parsley

*If you prefer homemade, simply combine 1/2 cup of warm honey with 3 Tablespoons of hot sauce.

Prepare the Wings

If your wings are frozen, make sure to thaw them completely before cooking. Bring a pot of water to boil over high heat. Then add 2 tablespoons of salt. Add the chicken wings and boil for 7 minutes. This helps boil away some of the fat to help make the wings extra crispy. Transfer the wings to a pan lined with paper towels. Squeeze and blot the wings dry to remove as much moisture as possible. Then sprinkle them with salt and pepper.

Bake the Wings

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with heavy-duty aluminum foil and spray it lightly with no-stick cooking spray. Bake the wings for 10 minutes. Then turn them over and bake them another 15 minutes. If you want your wings extra crispy, turn on the broiler and place them 6 inches below it for 5 minutes. Check them often to make sure they don’t burn.

Make the Sauce

Melt butter in a saucepan or the microwave. Whisk in honey, hot sauce, and garlic powder. If you like extra heat, try adding red pepper flakes until your desired hotness is reached. Set sauce aside until you’re ready to serve. (Note: Bottled hot honey is available and a great option if you’re pressed for time. We recommend Mike’s Hot Honey.)

Serve

Place wings in a large bowl and toss them with half of the warm hot honey butter. Add sauce gradually to achieve your preferred level of flavor, and save the rest for dipping. Garnish with sliced green onions or chopped parsley and serve immediately.

If you have leftovers they can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for a few days and reheated in the oven or microwave. But we highly doubt that will happen with these delicious wings.

Enjoy!
